Day 1: Welcome to Cape Town

Arrive in the Mother City and explore at your own pace if you arrive early. In the evening, meet your fellow travellers and trip leader for a welcome gathering.

Day 2: Coffee & Culture

Start the day with a Community Coffee Cupping experience, where local roasters showcase their finest brews and connect with coffee lovers. Each week, a different roastery takes the spotlight, guiding guests through a sensory experience of tasting and learning. More than just a coffee tasting, these sessions foster a sense of community, celebrate the craft of coffee-making, and support local artisans.

Then, explore the history of Cape Town through the lens of its most influential figures on an immersive walking tour. Journey through key moments in the city’s past and discover how they shaped modern-day Cape Town. Highlights include the Company’s Garden, the oldest living “citizen” in the city, Parliament, Greenmarket Square, the Castle of Good Hope, and the Slave Lodge. This experience offers a blend of colonial history, cultural insights, and personal stories, giving you a deeper understanding of what it means to be a true Capetonian.

The afternoon is yours to explore or opt for an optional activity.

Day 3: Full-Day Winelands Tour

Embark on a lively and flavourful journey through the Cape Winelands, where world-class wines, scenic landscapes, and great company come together. This tour includes multiple wine tastings, a decadent wine pairing experience, and a guided cellar tour. Along the way, explore Stellenbosch on a walking tour, admire the charming Franschhoek valley, and stop for a photo at Drakenstein Prison—where Nelson Mandela took his first steps to freedom. A knowledgeable guide ensures you gain insight into the region’s rich winemaking heritage, while the relaxed and social atmosphere makes it a perfect day out for wine lovers.

Day 4: Cycling & Hidden Gems

Begin your adventure at the V&A Waterfront as we make our way to the heart of Cape Town, where you’ll get a taste of the city’s urban culture and historic charm. From the urban streets, we head towards the serene Green Point Park. Enjoy stunning views of Signal Hill and Lion’s Head, with plenty of spots to stop and admire the local flora and fauna. The park’s eco-friendly design and peaceful ambience make it a favourite among locals and visitors. Continue your journey to the historic Green Point Lighthouse, the oldest operational lighthouse in South Africa. Next, we cycle along the iconic Sea Point Promenade, a long, flat path that hugs the coastline. The promenade is a favourite among locals for jogging, walking, and cycling, and you’ll feel the vibrant energy of the community as we ride along.

After enjoying the coastal ride, we cycle to the Oranjezicht City Farm Market, a local gem celebrating Cape Town’s farm-to-table culture. This popular market is a feast for the senses, offering fresh produce, delicious street food, artisanal products, and more. It’s a great spot to pause and indulge in locally sourced treats while enjoying the lively atmosphere and mingling with locals and fellow travellers. The tour concludes at the vibrant V&A Waterfront, one of Cape Town’s most visited attractions. Here, you’ll cycle past historic landmarks, and modern art installations, and enjoy views of the harbour and Table Mountain.

Day 5: Hermanus & Whale Watching

An early start to the day as we hit the road to Hermanus, one of the best whale-watching spots in the world. Hop on a whale-watching boat tour and marvel at these gentle giants. Set sail from Hermanus New Harbour in search of the majestic Southern Right Whales on this unforgettable marine adventure. The experience begins with an informative briefing by a whale expert before heading out to sea, where the anticipation builds—who will spot the first whale? Once in their natural habitat, we observe these gentle giants on their terms, learning about their behaviours from our onboard guides. A professional videographer captures the highlights, so you can fully immerse yourself in the moment. After returning to land, browse local crafts, grab a souvenir, or simply relax by the waterfront.

Day 6: Day at leisure in Hermanus

Take the day at your own pace as you explore this cute town.

The Hermanus Cliff Path is one of Hermanus’ unique attractions. It is just over 12km long and stretches from the New Harbour in Westcliff all along the coastline to Grotto Beach in Voelklip. The Cliff Path is accessible from many points along the route, and benches at strategic points provide a place to sit and watch the whales or enjoy the sea.

Explore the artistic side of Hermanus with visits to local art galleries and museums. Discover contemporary South African art, meet local artists, and gain insight into the cultural fabric of the town.

Visit the Old Harbour Museum to delve into the maritime history of Hermanus. Explore the preserved fishing boats and historical exhibits that offer a glimpse into the town’s past and its connection to the sea.

Day 7: Coastal Escape to Wilderness

Head to the charming town of Wilderness and enjoy a relaxed afternoon exploring the area.

Day 8: Panoramic Views & Local Charm

Take a scenic journey through the Garden Route, visiting three unique destinations. Marvel at the panoramic views from the Map of Africa viewpoint, where rolling landscapes resemble a giant map. Next, stop at Victoria Bay, a secluded surf haven with a beautiful coastline. Conclude the experience at Timberlake Organic Village, a charming collection of artisanal shops, cafes, and eco-friendly markets—perfect for tasting local flavours and picking up handmade crafts.

Day 9: Morning at leisure in Wilderness → Storms River

Spend the morning at leisure or opt for optional canoeing before heading to Storms River, the gateway to the Tsitsikamma National Park.

Day 10: Adventure in Storms River

We take a scenic walk through lush indigenous forest to the famous Storms River Mouth suspension bridges. The trail follows a winding boardwalk leading to breathtaking views of the river’s dramatic mouth. Along the way, you’ll pass the historic Storms River Mouth Cave, a Khoisan heritage site, before reaching the Spirit of Tsitsikamma boat jetty. For those seeking an extra challenge, the trail continues beyond the bridge, climbing to a stunning lookout point on the plateau.

Day 11: Storms River → Knysna

Arrive in Knysna, famous for its lagoon and waterfront. Enjoy a free afternoon to soak in the beauty of this coastal town.

Day 12: Featherbed Nature Reserve Experience

Discover the untouched beauty of Featherbed Nature Reserve, a privately-owned gem on Knysna’s Western Head, accessible only by ferry. This guided 4-hour excursion includes a scenic ferry ride, a 4×4 drive through the reserve, and a leisurely 2.2 km nature walk with breathtaking views. Expert guides share fascinating insights about the local flora, fauna, and history along the way. The adventure ends with a delicious outdoor buffet.

Day 13: Knysna → Mossel Bay

Travel to Mossel Bay, where you’ll have the afternoon at leisure.

Step back in time on a walking tour of Mossel Bay, a coastal town rich in maritime history. This tour offers a blend of culture, heritage, and natural beauty—making it an excellent way to experience the heart of Mossel Bay.

Then, journey back to Cape Town for your final night.

What is the accommodation like?

We stay in hostels, offering a budget-friendly and social experience. Rooms are shared (dorm-style). Private rooms are available at an extra cost.

Is this trip physically demanding?

This trip includes light hiking, cycling, walking and optional adventure activities, but you don’t need to be super fit.

How much extra money should I budget?

How do I get to Cape Town?

Fly into Cape Town International Airport (CPT), and take an Uber to your accommodation. We can arrange an airport transfer for an additional fee.

Can I come alone?

Do I need travel insurance?

Travel insurance is mandatory and must cover medical expenses, trip cancellations, and adventure activities. Proof of insurance must be provided before departure. We recommend SafetyWing.

Do I need a visa?

Visa requirements depend on your nationality. Many passport holders can enter South Africa visa-free for up to 90 days, but check this website for guidance.

Will I have WiFi & cell service?

All accommodations offer WiFi, and major towns have good cell coverage. Consider getting an eSIM or a local SIM card for affordable data. We recommend Airalo.

What is the weather like?

Cape Town: Temperature: 10°C – 20°C (50°F – 68°F). Rain: Occasional showers, but generally drying out. Wind: Can be windy, especially near the coast. Garden Route: Temperature: 12°C – 22°C (54°F – 72°F). Rain: Less rain than winter, but still possible. Wind: Generally calmer than Cape Town.

What is the cancellation policy?
